Postdoctoral Research Associate John Ryniawec, PhD, (Rogers Lab) won second place in the College of Medicine - Tucson's Research Day Shark Tank competition on May 4th. Dr. Ryniawec proposed a new and simple approach to identify hypoxic regions (regions with low oxygen) in standard tumor biopsy samples. Because tumor hypoxia is associated with worse patient outcome, this approach may be used alongside the current standard of care to better predict patient prognosis and inform treatment decisions.
